GCF validates first LTE RF test cases on R&S®TS8980 conformance test system
Rohde & Schwarz is now the first test equipment supplier to offer validated RF and signaling LTE test cases. Three months ago Rohde & Schwarz set a milestone in the commercial roll-out of LTE mobile terminals by having the first LTE signaling test cases validated on the R&S®CMW500 wideband radio communication tester. This instrument is not only the first test platform ever for LTE test cases but also the signaling unit of the R&S®TS8980 conformance test system.
The R&S®TS8980 is a fully scalable test system simulating a mobile network in line with the WCDMA/HSPA+ and LTE test specifications. The test platform is registered with the GCF and designed for the development, optimization and, last but not least, certification of a wide range of terminals such as mobile phones, smart phones and data cards. As market leader, Rohde & Schwarz has already sold more than 180 test systems of the predecessor model R&S®TS895x for 2G and 3G technologies.
LTE represents nothing less than the introduction of the next generation of radio networks. Featuring peak data rates of up to 100 Mbit/s in the downlink and 50 Mbit/s in the uplink, reduced latency and other performance improvements, LTE is the answer to the growing demand for mobile network capacity. Nearly all GSM/WCDMA network operators have committed themselves to launching LTE worldwide, starting with the first commercial networks as early as 2010.
The Global Certification Forum (GCF) certification scheme is recognized globally as the de facto standard for certifying all kinds of mobile terminals designed for operation in 3GPP standards such as GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE. With more than 220 terminal and chipset manufacturers, network operators, test facilities and test equipment suppliers all over the world, the GCF ensures the interoperability and high-quality service of mobile devices according to the motto “Test once – works anywhere”.
